According to Census 2011, 68% of India’s Population resides in rural India. On the contrary 2010 Census in USA states that ~80% populations stays in urban areas. Rural India has perennially been associated with lower infrastructure in terms of roads construction, irrigation, animal husbandry, electrification, water storages and cold storage linkages. The union government at the Centre is entrusted with the responsibility of infrastructure development in Rural India.
However, our belief is, there is a need for private and public sector enterprises to work in tandem to expand reach and rural connectivity there by ensuring growth.
The onus is on corporate India in order to play a vital role with regards to development of infrastructure in rural India.
Several corporates have been at the forefront of rural development and have initiated various collaborations, some of the noted collaborations are Infosys Foundation, Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development and Tata Steel Rumral Development Society which have been initiatives taken by few of India’s leading conglomerates for development of Rural development in India.
Private Public Partnerships models have been used in the following areas: roads construction, irrigation, animal husbandry, electrification, water storages and Cold storage linkages.
There are various projects wherein funds tie up with a non-governmental organization (NGO) in India and supports projects that are typically up to a year duration. Examples of such projects are health camps, family planning camps, link roads, and other infrastructure projects.
India is on the track to achieve overall rural development with the recent governmental focus on rural infrastructure.
