We would be talking about the discrimination which is been done by our society against transgender or we can say third gender. In our society, weare Patriarchal and gives lot of importance to males. As we all know that there is one another gender in our society they are the transgender or third gender. They are known by different name like hijras in south Asia. , kathoeys in Thailand and muxes in Mexico.
DIFFERENCE
Third gender usually is referred to hermaphrodites and eunuchs, commonly known as hijras in India. Hermaphrodites and eunuchs are different. Hermaphrodites are the human being born with both male and female sex organ whereas eunuchs are men who are castrated and due to castration, their body undergoes through various hormonal changes.
Why they are separated in society.
In our Hindu culture, lord Shiva is still worshiped as an ardhnarishwar, i.e., half –male and half female form. The third gender has been ascribed spiritual power by most of indigenous societies. As god Shiva is been worshipped by our society then why these third gender in not worshipped. These is all because of the stereotypes which is been nurtured by the old generation. The transgender is separated in our society according to the physical distinction and appearance. The society in which we are living is the society which chooses to ignore the third gender in every possible ways. Mostly they are separated by their family as the family thinks that supporting the third gender would outcast them. They would not have any kind of preference in society to earn and feed the family. Accepting them as a part of family would not benefit anyone. Will they provide any kind of family support?
Problems faced by the transgender
They are not even provided with the basic needs , are discriminated against,have no family support with them. The age-old stereotypes of the society have created lot of problems for the transgender. As we know that they don’t even have education right in our society. They don’t even have the opportunity to work in government jobs. They have to listen to abuses from other people. The right which is been provided to the other gender (male and female) to exit in our society is not being provided to third gender people. In any of the religious program or any other program of the society they are not been invited. Our constitution’s Preamble teaches us to respect every one and not to do discrimination in color, gender, caste, on the bases of income etc… But in some or other way we use to see them only doing discrimination between genders. Transgender people have difficulty in exercising the basic civil rights. Transgender people are in light for cases like harassment, violence, denial of services and unfair treatment.
The percentage of transgender exists: Finally there is count of third gender in our census; the population of about 4.9 lakh exists as transgender.
Means of livelihood forthe transgender 
- They have to beg in front of people by performing dance or singing.
- They use to dance where there is marriage or delivery of women, and ask for money.
- Nowadays the population of the third gender has risen so they beg in trains and buses also.
- At the time of festivals also they come to home for money.
Opportunity which can be there for them:
- Third gender have different voice pitch so they can do job in the radio stations as their only voice matter.
- They should start their own dance institution as they have the skill of dancing.
- They can even start up with small scale business like a cottage industry.
- Help society in changing their thinking against themselves through awareness campaigns and Nukkad Natak.
Direction to the central and state government:
- Hijras , eunuchs should be treated as third gender for the purpose of safeguarding their fundamental rights.
- Recognize the person’s need to identify his own gender.
- Providing reservation in public education and employments socially and educationally backward class of citizen.
- To create public awareness so that the transgender feels that they are part of the society and are not to be treated as untouchable.
- frame social welfare scheme for their all round development
- Measures should be taken to provide healthcare to transgender people in hospitals such as making separate wards and also to provide them separate public toilets.
The judgment has marked a break from otherwise paternalistic and charitable approach of the state toward the transgender community by framing their concern as a matter of rights.
INITIATIVES THAT CSR SHOULD TAKE FOR THIRD GENDER
- The proper institution should be there so they can educate themselves.
- Once they are educated csr should provide them with job facilities.
- Jobs are not only the single field where they can go they can go in business fields.
- Companies should provide them with loan facility to settle their business.
- different dance and singing institution should be there for the elderly third gender
- They should also be updated according to the society and environment.
Conclusion:
Each being in universe is indeed unique and an integral part of nature. It would thus be wrong to judge and discriminate people who may be different from the stereotype, which again is manmade. It is time that India realized that every individual in the country has equal rights and privileges, and follow the policy of “live and let other live”
