DLF Foundation organizes Blood Donation Camp to mark World Blood Donor Day

September 9th, 2016 admin News 0 comments

” On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, DLF Foundation, in collaboration with Sarthak Prayas, an NGO and DLF Promenade organized a blood donation camp to encourage young professionals and community members in the capital to     participate in this worthy cause. The blood will be collected by Lions blood bank.”

The camp was organized on June 14, 2016 at DLF Promenade located in the area of Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. A team of Doctors, paramedics and volunteers were positioned all over the mall to ensure a safe and hygienic camp. While all the professionals followed stringent screening procedures and good laboratory practices for testing, processing and collecting blood, donors’ details were documented carefully by the volunteers. The initiative witnessed wide participation from more than people, residing in various parts of the city. A pack of each, juice and biscuit, along with a small gift and a donor card was given to all the successful donors by the NGO. The camp focused on collecting 150-200 units of blood at the camp. According to World Health Organization estimates, India needs a minimum of 12 million units of blood to meet its basic

requirement, with Delhi/NCR alone facing an annual shortage of 100,000 units of blood. Blood donations help meet only about 75 percent of the national requirement. DLF Foundation firmly believes in acting responsibly, encouraging and supporting healthy and resilient communities. The blood donation drive, which is a key community-focused initiative now in its fourth year, is held annually where employees of the foundation and residents of the city donated blood to support and save lives. Mr. Ritesh Sinha, Director, CSR, DLF Ltd, said, “DLF Foundation has always taken initiatives for the betterment of the society and will continue to do so. Every year, we organize a blood donation camp wherein thousands of people come together to donate blood. We are elated to see the response received from the residents of the city this time. We’re really thankful to those who donated their blood today and would like to request the others to start doing it because each unit is very important to us as it has the potential to save three lives.” “You don’t have to necessarily be a Doctor to save somebody’s life. The same can be done by donating blood as well. It is a divine cause and people all over the world should participate in it. I am very proud to see that people in such a great number have come to donate blood, I thank them for being responsible citizens of the country”, said Mahi Aggarwal, a participant in the blood donation camp and a student of Delhi University. The ‘World Blood Donor Day’ sanctioned by World Health Organization, is held every year on June 14 to raise awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary blood donation.
